I spent some time this weekend playing in my scrapbook room. It's been far to long since I created something just for fun. I've been wanting to make one of these Configurations for some time now. So I gather some paints, my distress inks, trinkets, and odds and ends from my stash and went to work. I choose this Configuration for my project.
I got started by painting the outside of the box with a light brown paint, while that dried I used some Tim Holtz tissue tape to line the edges of each box. Once the outer box was dry I applied crackle medium and set the outer box aside to dry. I set to work on the insides of each configuration box. I chose to go with a family time theme and placed an older favorite black and white photo of my son in the biggest box.
In each box, I used either a paper crimper or I crumbled the paper and then distressed it with various Tim Holtz distress inks. I used various pins from my stash to push into the boxes-the cool thing is that these boxes are sturdy but you can also easily stick a pin into them. Made for hanging charms off of them easy. I really loved the effect as well. For some of the configurations boxes I made dummy fronts and then glued my paper piece to those fronts. Here's an example of that:
Another wonderful thing about these Configurations is you can rearrange the boxes in various combinations. Pretty cool stuff! To finish of the project I applied a coat of Chocolate brown acrylic paint. Once that was dry and the crackle effect appeared on the piece, I swiped my Stormy Sky distress ink over the painted surface. Truly gives the piece a wood grain effect. The finished project is now in the store-along with various Configurations available for sale.
But I am not done yet! Each Configuration comes with its own lid with a piece of clear acrylic. You could easily just use it to cover the box and call that good. But I didn't want to stop there so I create another shawdowbox with the lid.
The cover measures 5.5 x 10 or so-I simply cut a piece of Tim's grungeboard to make my back. I then repeated the painting techinque that I did on the first project. I simply cut a piece of Bo Bunny paper to size as my page background. I used some favorite pictures of my dear friends daugher, that I took this fall as my starting point. I so rarely get to doing any feminine pages I knew I wanted to use flowers and butterflies and that's what I did here. Most of these items were from my stash of stuff and some. Again I used lots of ink, paint and metals. Oh and lots of pop dots to add dimension to the piece. To adhere the page to box top I used Scor Tape. Here a few more shots of the shawdow box.
Thanks for stopping by. Again both of these pieces are on display in the store. Stop in and see them close up and pick up some items to create your very own! Kelley
